AWTHS Summer Events 2026

Arcanum Walking Tour, June 6TH, starts off Arcanum Wayne Trail Historical Society’s summer events following with open house July 4th highlighting essays written by Arcanum 3rd grade students, continuing August 1st when Larry Wright, a descendant of George Ivester, will share the Ivester family history and memorabilia, including letters which date back many years.

Each program will give history of early life in Arcanum.  All programs are free and open to the public.

June 6th meet around 9:00 am at the historical society, 123 W. George St., for light refreshments.  Beginning at 9:30 Cary Wogomon and Carole Fourman will share town history while walking around the area of George, North, Sycamore and High Street.  Who were the town’s leaders who changed a dark dense wooded area of 250 years ago into the town we enjoy today?  In addition to the tour, AWTHS will feature Open Hours from 9-noon as well.

July 4th open hours are 9–Noon featuring selected Arcanum 3rd grade students essay exhibit.   Students were inspired to write essays following a field trip to AWTHS, where they learned about the life of a Revolutionary Soldier and that of his wife and family, who were at home taking care of the home and farm.

August 1st from 9-noon, during Saturday Open Hours, meet Larry Wright, a descendant of Ivester and Kepner families from 10 am – 11:30 am.  Sit and enjoy a cup of tea and chat with Larry.  Both families were land owners and owned a number of lots in the villages.  The 1872 Ivester family house has been home to the Arcanum Public Library since 1964.

The Arcanum Public Library (once the Ivester home) will be open from 9-1pm on August 1 as well to display some memorabilia that was there from years ago. Special tours and refreshments will be offered so visit both AWTHS and the library!
