September Events 2024

The month of September brings thoughts and images of fall scenery: pumpkins, mums, apples, bon fires, football and all the beautiful colors and scents of fall time.

Kids will be off to school, fall sports will be in full swing and our summer’s farmers market on West George will be winding down but continuing on Saturday mornings for those participating vendors. So keep that in mind.

Open hours are September 7 from 9-noon at 123 West George. Stop in to browse or do research. Appointments are recommended for research so our hosts can be prepared. But guests are always welcome to browse the research library and Arcanum Times Newspapers.

Mike Wells will be presenting September 12 at 7pm at AWTHS. His intriguing program will be “The Perilous Road to the Treaty of Greenville”. For those of you familiar with Darke County and Greenville history with the signing of the treaty in 1795, this is a fascinating story of his family’s journey from Maryland to the Kentucky frontier in the 1790’s. He will tell the story of his family at Morgan’s Station. Come and learn about what happened and how his family is tied to the Treaty of Greenville.

AWTHS will also be celebrating their 20th anniversary with dessert at the meeting, so come join us. Programs are free and open to the public.

Remember to donate gently used Christmas decorations and items to AWTHS for our upcoming Christmas Bazaar November 29 and 30th. Can leave the items in weatherproof packaging on back porch or call for pick-up of large items.

We still take aluminum cans for recycling as well. Those can be dropped off on back porch and put in the supplied container.

If your into Euchre card playing join the group. Contact Dick Troutwine for dates and times at AWTHS.

It’s also time to reserve the AWTHS facility for your fall shower, party, get together or Christmas dinner. Contact Carolyn Furlong or Sharon Troutwine for details and to reserve a date. The facility is unavailable for booking from around November 14 through first week in December due to bazaar set up and clean up.

Next program will be November 14 at 6:30pm with Cary Wogoman doing a virtual tour of Arcanum.
